William Blackaby was selected for the Suffolk County Team to compete in the Division 2 gala at the National County Team Championships held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield on 16 th October. There were a total of 38 teams (1100 competitors) and around 3000 spectators. The division 1 gala was televised and will be shown on UKTV G2 and Gold on 23 October.

Computer

This summer the club purchased a new laptop computer to replace the PC which is 10 years old.

We also needed new software to enable us to run our swimming meets (galas) and the Club Championships efficiently.

The system we are using now is called CORGI, which is described as a Meet Manager. CORGI has been used at the County Championships for a few years now and Sudbury and District Swimming Club have had it for longer.

The other software we have bought is called RANX. RANX replaces the database which held swimmers ‘best times' or ‘personal bests'. RANX is very versatile and can be used to produce all sorts of information based on times achieved. What it cannot do is produce a spreadsheet of times as we used to have on the notice board.

RANX has been set up to record a history of your times from 01.06.05. To input times before that for over 100 members in something approaching 20 events would have been impossible.

Swimmers should keep a record of all their own times achieved. However, as a replacement for the best times spreadsheet, I will issue each swimmer with their own page of best times whenever needed to enable you to complete entry forms.

I can also produce a page of your swimming history if you ask.

If you find any mistakes in your times don't hesitate to tell me. Also let me know if you want old times recorded for the purposes of club records.
