Andrew succeeds at Lowestoft

 

Andrew McFarlane had a very successful day at the 4 th Suffolk Disability Meet held at the Waveney Sports centre on Saturday18th February bringing home three 1 st places and swimming 2 personal bests in the 17 and over events. In the 25 m freestyle Andrew achieved a personal best of 19.94s; in the 25m breaststroke a personal best of 29.85 and in the 50m freestyle achieved 44.42s.

This swimming meet was organised by Suffolk County Amateur Swimming Association and supported by Lowestoft Lions and Waveney District Council. The meet provides all swimmers with an opportunity to swim in a competitive setting over a range of distances and strokes, according to personal strengths and wishes in age groups 12/under, 13-16 and 17/over.

 

Stowmarket Boys triumph at the Winter League

 

Stowmarket “A” and “B” teams competed in the third and final round of the winter league swimming galas on Saturday night respectively in Division 1 and Division 2. Stowmarket “A” boys stormed through to retain their title for the 2nd year after a closely fought contest with their rivals from Deben “A” at Crown Pools in Ipswich. Before the round started Deben “A” boys were ahead by 1 point but a number of great performances, especially from the relay teams, clinched victory for the Stowmarket “A” boys. Team Manager, Sylvia Harrison said “that the whole team had put on a fantastic display and special congratulations to the boys for retaining their title”. The 19 strong team amassed a total of 20 personal best (pb) times out of 34 individual swims.

Other teams competing in the Division 1 final were Gt. Yarmouth, Ipswich “A”, West Suffolk “A” and Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “A”. After the 3rd round, Stowmarket “A” boys finished with a total of 397 points, 10 ahead of Deben “A”. Stowmarket “A” Girls finished 4 th with a total of 316 points. The winning girls side was Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “A” with 420 points. The overall winners trophy with a combined boys and girls total of 785 points went to Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “A”, Deben “A” came 2 nd by 1 point and Stowmarket “A” 3 rd with 716 points, a very good performance all round.

The 20 strong Stowmarket “B” team travelled to Sudbury to compete in the Division 2 final against Halstead “A”, Felixstowe, Diss Otters, Hadleigh and West Suffolk “B”. Joint team Manager Tom Harrison said “that the swimmers had worked very achieving 22 pb's out of 34 individual swims and an exceptional performance form the senior girls medley relay team of Jenna North, Sam McGee, Sarah Morley and Abbie Chidwick gained them a 1 st place”. There were some excellent individual performances led by the younger members, Jacob Randall Honeyball achieved a 2 ½ sec pb in the 11/U 50m freestyle (34.28), Ria Delves a 2sec pb in 12/13 50 fly (39.22), Oliver Smith 1 ½ sec pb in 11/U 50 fly (50.18) and not to be outdone, joint Team Manager Jenna North achieved a 5sec pb in the open 100m individual medley (1.14.60). Overall the Stowmarket “B” team finished 5 th .

Stowmarket swimming Club are now looking forward to the County Championships starting next week (5 th March) at Crown Pools. A team of over 40 members will compete over three weekends with members from the other 13 clubs in the County, hoping to build on their success in the Winter League.

Stowmarket Swimming Club “A” and “B” teams competed in round two of the Winter League. 20 members of Stowmarket “A” swam at Lowestoft in the Division 1 gala competing with Lowestoft A and B teams, Thetford, Great Yarmouth and Saxons. The Stowmarket and Lowestoft A swimmers competed for top honours throughout the evening and there were several closely fought races. By the end of the evening the boys' event had been tied between Stowmarket and Lowestoft A, each with 105 points, the girls' competition was won by Lowestoft A with a massive 118 points. The Stowmarket girls achieved 3 rd place with 83 points. The overall winner on the night was Lowestoft A with a combined total of 223 points, with Stowmarket in second place with 188 points.

Stowmarket Team Manager, Sylvia Harrison said at the end “The swimmers had all done a superb job with lots of pb's (personal best) and maximum points were achieved in the senior boys relay events. The swim of the night for me was Mat Davies achieving a 6 second pb in the 12/13 100 fly”. Out of 32 individual events there were 17 pb's. Several of the younger team members put in exceptional performances, Aaron Lynch achieving a near 5sec pb for the 11/U 50 backstroke (35.77), Ella Delves gained a 3sec pb for 11/U 50 freestyle (35.12) and Sophia Morris achieving a near 3sec pb in the 14/15 100m freestyle.

The 22 member Stowmarket B team hosted the Division 2 match at the Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre, Stowmarket against teams from Halstead, Hadleigh, Leiston and West Suffolk finishing 4th with a combined points tally of 166. The fixture was won by West Suffolk B (197 points) with Hadleigh coming in 2 nd (172points). Again there were some excellent swims led by the younger Stowmarket team members amassing 19 pb's out of 32 individual events. Oliver Smith worked very hard and got a 4 sec pb in the 11/U 50 fly (52.04), Ria Delves achieving a 5sec pb in the 12/13 100 fly (1.27.54), Rebecca Dormer 2 sec 11/U 50 fly (46.58), and Steve McGee not to be out done achieved two big pbs, 3sec each for 14/15 100 free (1.03.24) and 14/15 100 breast (1.26.57). Team managers Tom Harrison and Jenna North complemented the team for all their hard work.
Stowmarket at Ipswich Open meet (21/22 January 2006)

 

Nine members of Stowmarket swimming Club attended the 7 th Ipswich Licensed open meet at Crown pools this weekend completing 23 swims. Most of the swimmers obtained personal best times with four achieving East Region Championship qualifying times. Coach Sylvia Harrison was particularly pleased with the younger swimmers “despite the heavy training sessions as we build up to the County Championship the swimmers consistently produce personal best times and it is especially pleasing seeing them achieve qualifying times for the East Region competition”. Overall the team achieved 3 first places and 3 third places.

Stowmarket at the County Championships

 

The first two days of the County Swimming Championships has been very successful for the 40 strong Stowmarket team. David Harrison gained two County Championship titles in 50m breaststroke (30.5s) and 100m breaststroke (1.07.76) also picking up an East Region Championship qualifying time. 11 year old Aaron Lynch also picked up two Junior Championship titles in 50m breaststroke (36.7s) and 50m butterfly in a personal best (pb) time of 33.2 seconds. Aaron has also achieved 3 East Region Championships times for 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke, in this last event he has also gained a National Championships time. 12 year old Will Blackaby has also gained 3 East Region times for 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and 400 Freestyle. A further East Region times was achieved by Team Coach Shaun Harrison in 100m breaststroke. Out of over 90 individual swims 44 personal best times have been achieved by team members with some very big achievements notably from the younger members. 10 year old Rebecca Dormer gaining a 21s pb in her 200m freestyle race (2.59.3), 14 year olds Nicola Morgan (4.55.20) and Chloe Ford (5.09.90) both got 14s pb's in 400m freestyle and 15 year old Abigail Chidwick (5.09.4) achieving a 17sec pb in the same event. Further success was gained in the relay events with the 11/12 years 4x50 boys' medley relay team picking up a bronze medal in a time of 2.24.0 and a superb performance by the 15/16 years 4x50 boys “A” medley team got them gold ahead of their rivals from Ipswich by a narrow 2 tenths of a second in the last event of Sunday evening.

The Championships recommence next Saturday for a further two days of exciting competition.

Further success for Stowmarket at the County Championships

 

This weekend saw the Stowmarket team winning more championship titles. David Harrison has added to his collection and won the County Championship title in the 200m breaststroke (2.32.57s) also picking up an East Region Championship qualifying time.

This year's championship is certainly 11 year old Aaron Lynch's, he has picked up a two further Junior Championship titles in the 50m backstroke (34.3s) and 50m freestyle in a time of 28.3 seconds. Aaron has also achieved two further National Championship times in 100m freestyle (1.01.43) and 200m freestyle knocking an incredible 15 seconds off his personal best (pb) to achieve a time of 2.16.37.

A number of swimmers also achieved East Region Championship qualifying times, James King in 50m freestyle (27.06) and 100m freestyle (59.43s) both pb's; Adam Dusynski 50m freestyle (25.74s), 100m freestyle (56.30s) and 200m freestyle (2.04.17pb); Edmund Crosthwaite 50m freestyle (26.59s) and 100m freestyle (59.34s); Oliver Bumstead 50m freestyle (26.58) and 100m freestyle (57.36s); Joseph Hardwick 50m freestyle (27.35). The girls were not to be out done, 11 year old Ella Delves gaining her first East Region time in the 200m breaststroke (3.21.42 pb), 14 year old Nicola Morgan got a massive pb of 45 seconds off her 800m freestyle time (10.02.74) and also 50m freestyle (30.41). Both Kimberley Hough and Jenna North were also successful in the 50m freestyle (28.9s and 29.92s respectively).

Out of over 85 individual swims 37 personal best times have been achieved by team members, again with some very big achievements from the younger members. 12 year old Rebecca Dodunski gaining a 8s pb in her 200m backstroke race (2.59.8), 12 year old Louise Christopher knocked 7 seconds off her 400Individual medley time (8.18.6) and 12 year old Sophie Long took 5 seconds off her 200m breaststroke (3.19.70)

Further success was gained in the relay events with the 11/12 years 4x50 boys' freestyle team picking up a silver medal (one place better than last week) in a time of 1.40.30, the Stowmarket “A” open male 4x50m medley relay team also picked up a silver in 1.53.6, the boys 15/16 years 4x50 boys “A” freestyle team gained a bronze as did the Stowmarket “A” open male 4x50m freestyle team.

The last day of the Championships is next Sunday where all the final placings will be sorted out in another full day of exciting competition.
 
Stowmarket at the County Championships

 

The last day of the 2006 championships saw the Stowmarket team compete in the final round of competitions. The first event of the day was the popular skins event where the best 8 50m freestylers compete in 7 rounds with the slowest dropping out each time. This year three Stowmarket members competed. Shaun Harrison fell at the 2nd round, Adam Dusynski in the 4 th whilst David Harrison competed in a close fought final round to finish runner up.

In the remaining events, of the 17 individual swims 10 were personal bests (pb) with 11 year old Aaron Lynch finishing off a very successful championship with a 3 second pb in the 200m individual medley (2.39.53) and another East Region Championships qualifying time.

Of the other swimmers it was the girls who put in some big performances to improve their times; Ella Delves gained a 8s pb in her 200m individual medley (3.10.10), Sarah-Jane Wells knocking 5 seconds off her pb in the 100m breaststroke (1.22.90) and achieving 6 th place in the final, 10 year olds Mollie Drew and Rebecca Dormer both achieved 8 sec pb's in the 100m individual medley (1.35.60 and 1.30.20 respectively).

With the final presentations saw Aaron Lynch secure the 11 year olds Championship plaque, and James King picking up the 15 year old stroke award for breaststroke. Overall Stowmarket finished the 2006 championships in 6 th place.

Stowmarket at Norwich

 

A small contingent of 8 swimmers with Coach and Team Manager Sylvia Harrison attended the 5 th East Anglian Long Course meet at the Sportspark in Norwich over the Easter weekend. This is a useful meet to give swimmers experience of long course (50metres) events and to give an opportunity to gain qualifying times for the regional and national championships.

David Harrison had an excellent swim in the 50m breaststroke achieving a first place in the boys 15/over in a time of 31.34s and achieving a qualifying time for the national championships to be held in August at Sheffield. James King in the same event achieved a 3 rd place in 35.47s. James competed in 2 further events coming 9 th in the boys 15/over 100m breaststroke in a time of 1.21.26 and boys 15/over 50m freestyle in 27.47s (15 th place). Aaron Lynch also claimed some silver ware coming 1 st in the 12/under boys 100m freestyle in a time of 1.01.46, 1 st in the 12/under boys 50m freestyle in 28.52 and a 5 th place in the 12/under 200m breaststroke in 3.03.24.

Both 10 year old Mollie Drew and 11 year old Ella Delves competed for the first time in a long course meet, both entering the 12/under girls 50m breaststroke finishing 35 th (49.93s) and 11 th (44.04s) respectively.

13 year William Blackaby competing in a total of 8 events in the 13/14 age group with the aim of getting as much experience as possible of the longer pool. In 200m butterfly achieved a 5 th place in 3.02.27, 5 th in 50m butterfly (31.19), 14 th in 50m freestyle (30.19), 16 th in 100m backstroke (1.14.92), 20 th in 200m backstroke (2.43.56), 22 nd in 200m freestyle (2.26.31), 34 th in 100m freestyle (1.07.14) and 17 th in 200m individual medley (2.43.30) gaining a qualifying time for the East Region championships in June.

Other swims included a 10 th place for Adam Duszynski in 15/over 100m freestyle in 57.41 and 6 th place in 15/over 50m freestyle in 26.08. Oliver Bumstead gained an 11 th place in the same event in 27.17.

Sylvia Harrison said that “all the swimmers had worked very hard and had achieved some very good times in the long pool”.

The team is now looking forward to competing in the summer league galas starting on 22 April.

Stowmarket SC hosted the first round of Division 1 of the Junior Summer League at the newly refurbished Bury St. Edmunds Leisure Centre on Saturday evening. The 20 strong team competed in 43 events including the ever popular relays against teams from Gt. Yarmouth, Deben and two teams from Lowestoft & Oulton Broad. Out of 33 individual swims 18 personal best (pb) times were achieved by the swimmers aged from 10 to 13 years old.

Louise Christopher got two pb's, achieving ½ seco nd pb in 13/under 100m individual medley (IM) (1.24.43) and 2 seconds in 13/under 100m butterfly (1.31.13). Will Blackaby made a 3 ½s pb in the 13/under 100m IM (1.13.74). 10 year old Elysia Golding got a massive 9 second pb in the 10/under 50m backstroke (52.15s), not to be outdone 11 year old Ryan Clay got a 10s pb in the 11/under 50m back stroke (49.18). Other pb's were achieved by Ella Delves (50m Breaststroke – 43.10s and 50 butterfly – 43.69s), Georgia Leader-White (50m freestyle – 39.85s), Jamie Crosthwaite (50m freestyle – 32.54s), Jordan Redhead (50m Breaststroke – 58.65s), Rebecca Dodunski (100m backstroke – 1.24.16), Chloe Meadows (50m freestyle – 47.16s and 50m butterfly – 1.00.70), Mollie Drew (50m butterfly – 46.21s) and Jacob Randall-Honeyball (50m backstroke – 43.70s).

By the end of the evening the boys' event had been won by Deben with 109 points, Stowmarket finished third with 81 points, the girls' competition was won by Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “A” with 125 points, Stowmarket girls finished third with 75 points and the overall winner was Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “A” with a combined total of 229 points (including 1 st place points for the cannon relay), 11 points ahead of Deben with a combined total of 218, and Stowmarket finishing third with 160 points. Gt. Yarmouth came fourth and Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “B” fifth.

 

West Suffolk Open 6th/7 th May 2006

Will Blackaby, Aaron Lynch and Adam Duszynski competed at the West Suffolk open at the reopened Bury St Edmunds pool

Aaron got his national championships qualifying time for 100m breast stroke in 1.18.47 and came 2nd in 12/13 age group.

Will competed in four events.

In the 200m individual medley Will achieved his regional championship qualifying time with a time of 2.36.23; he also came first in the 12/13 age group

In the 100m free he came 7th in his age group in a time of 1.04.57

He achieved a time of 2.21.23 in the 200m freestyle, coming 6th in the age group

Wills final race of the day was the 200m fly and got his second regional championship qualifying time of the day in 2.38.30 coming 2nd in the age group.

Adam competed in the one race on the Sunday, 50m freestyle achieving a time of 25.92s, coming third in the 16/over category.

 

Stowmarket at the Junior Summer league Round 2 (20/5/06)

Stowmarket SC travelled to Thetford for the 2 nd round of the Division 1 Junior Summer League. 16 members of the club aged from 10 to 13 competed in 43 events including the relays against teams from Deben, Gt. Yarmouth, Thetford and two teams from Lowestoft & Oulton Broad. Out of 33 individual swims 20 personal best (pb) times were achieved.

There were several very good swims especially from Ella Delves in the 50m breaststroke who came in a first place in the joker event and Aaron Lynch who in the anchor leg of the boys 4x50 free pulled the team from a probable third place in to first place in the last few metres. There were also some big pb's from the younger team members, Nathan Long achieved a 3.4 pb in his 50 backstroke, Jordan Redhead 2.3 s pb in his 50 breaststroke, Elysia Golding 4 second pb in the 50 breaststroke, Ryan Clay 3.5s pb in the 50 fly and Mollie Drew 2.2s pb also in the 50 fly. By the end of the evening the Stowmarket team finished in fourth place with 151 points. The evening's event was won by Deben with 205 points, Lowestoft and Oulton Broad “A” came 2 nd with 203 points and Thetford came third with 175 points. The final two places were filled by Gt. Yarmouth in fifth place with 146 points and Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “B” in sixth with 81 points.

Stowmarket SC travelled to Woodbridge for the final round of the Division 1 Junior Summer League. There were some very competitive swims led by 12 year old Aaron Lynch who notched up four 1 st places to ensure the club finished in third place in the league behind Lowestoft & Oulton Broad “A” and Deben swimming clubs. Team Manager Sylvia Harrison said “she was very pleased by the performance especially from the younger members of the team competing in their first year of the summer league and achieving a great result with third place”.

18 members of the club aged from 10 to 13 competed in the 43 events including the relays against the teams from Deben, Gt. Yarmouth, Thetford and two teams from Lowestoft & Oulton Broad. Out of 33 individual swims 10 personal best (pb) times were achieved. The big pbs came from Sophie Long, reducing her (pb) by 9 seconds in the 4x25m individual medley in 1.22.22, Aaron Lynch not to be out done took a massive 14 seconds of his 4x25m individual time in 1.09.24.

Stowmarket Swimming Club at the 2006 County development Championships 17/18 th June 2006

Stowmarket SC had a very successful two days at the Development Championships held at Crown Pools, Ipswich over the weekend. There were a number of very good swims from the 25 strong team with 64 personal best times (pb) out of 84 swims and 23 top three finishes. Jacob Randall-Honeyball was the most successful boy with 3 first places and one 3 rd and Iona Richards the most successful girl with 2 first and one 2nd. Team Manager, Sylvia Harrison, stated she was very pleased with the large number of personal best times across the whole team and just shows they had trained very hard in the months leading up to the competition. Overall Stowmarket finished in 9 th position. The team are looking forward to the final round of the summer league competition to be held at Woodbridge next week.

Stowmarket SC at The East Region Championships

Three members from the Stowmarket SC qualified for this year's championship and had some considerable success in a very competitive competition. 11 year old Ella Delves in her first championships competed in the 200m breaststroke coming 7 th in her age group with a time of 3.23 79 and qualified for the final coming in 8 th place in a personal best time (pb) of 3.23.73.

13-year-old Will Blackaby competed in 8 events reaching the final in two.

400m freestyle 13 th in 3.23.79 (pb), 200m individual medley 12 th in 2.38.04 (pb), 100m backstroke 5 th in age group 1.12.98 (pb), 8 th in final 1.13.79, 100m freestyle 17 th in 1.05.33 (pb), 200m Backstroke 11 th in 2.39.48 (pb), 100m butterfly 8 th in age group in 1.11.99 (pb), 8 th in final in 1.11.91(pb), 400m individual medley 10 th in 5.38.45 (pb), 200m butterfly 9 th in 2.46.95 (pb). Overall Will achieved 16 th place (out of 40) in the 13-year age group.

12-year-old Aaron Lynch had by far the most successful championships competing in 5 events and reaching the final in all of them, winning 3, coming second in one and third in the other. Aaron also achieved national championship qualifying times in all five events.

200m freestyle 2 nd in age group in 2.17.84 (pb), 2 nd in final in 2.16.47(pb), 200m individual medley 2 nd in age group in 2.37.41(pb) 3 rd in final in 2.35.32(pb), 100m free 1 st in age group in 1.02.16 (pb), 1 st in final in 1.01.54 (pb), 200m breaststroke 2 nd in age group in 3.00.32 (pb), 1 st in final in 2.55.69 (pb), 100m breaststroke 1 st in 1.22.73 (pb), 1 st in final in 1.19.90 (pb). Overall Aaron came third place (out of 45) in the 12-year age group.

Coach Shaun Harrison said that all three swimmers have worked very hard and have done very well.
