Dear Parent

At Stowmarket Swimming Club's AGM on Wednesday, 23 November, the Committee is re-elected and this year, with a number of people not wishing to stand for election again, we are seriously in need of new volunteers to help run the Club. Crucially, we will be losing our Chairman and Treasurer. Also, having served as Secretary for 8 years, I too feel it is time to stand down. These posts are vital to the Club - we cannot run without them.

I'll explain briefly what is required.

Chairman: A little knowledge of swimming, with the main task being to Chair the ten Committee meetings per year and AGM. The Chairman should ensure that things that need to be done by other Committee members are done, help out when appropriate - ang generally keep us in order!

Treasurer: Knowledge of swimming not essential - ask the present incumbent! Basic book-keeping is required and he/she would need to be at the Club to collect training fees for the first few weeks of each term, liaising with the Membership Secretary. Recommend level of fees to keep us afloat! Needs to find a suitably qualified person to audit the accounts at year end (30 Sept). Any 'early retired' grandparents out there?

Secretary: Basic understanding of swim club required. Take Minutes at Committee meetings and AGM, liaise with Membership Secretary for annual ASA membership, general club admin.

We will also need other Committee members to help out with a variety of jobs.

Help is always available from others. Let's face it - we are all working towards the same goal, that of teaching and encouraging (your) children to compete at and, most of all, enjoy swimming.

The Club has enjoyed considerable success in recent years and if this is to continue, we must have your support. Don't leave it to others - come to the AGM yourself. If no-one volunteered, the Club could not exist. Time is in short supply for everyone and none of us are paid (you can see the accounts at the AGM, which include pool hire costs of circa £20,000), but .......

PLEASE DON'T LET YOUR SWIMMING CLUB DROWN!
